Match Preview: Kilbirnie Ladeside vs Johnstone Burgh

All the info ahead of Saturday's WOSFL First Division clash against Kilbirnie Ladeside.

The Match:
On Saturday, we travel to Valefield Park to take on Kilbirnie. The match kicks off at 14:00. It's sure to be an exciting tie between two of the division's form teams.

Weather:
At the time of writing, the forecast looks wet for the next couple of days. However, the later part of the week, as well as the match day, looks dry so, at the moment, we are not anticipating any doubts over the match.

Form:
In all competitions, we've won six of our last seven with our only defeat coming against Threave Rovers in the South Challenge Cup. Although, it did take penalties to win our two Scottish Junior Cup games against two sixth-tier teams either side of the Threave defeat. In the league, we currently sit 8th, 10 points behind leaders Petershill. However, we do have eight games in hand on them and have played fewer games than every other team in our division. Burgh are unbeaten in our last six league matches, a run that, unbelievably, stretches back to September due to our cup runs in multiple competitions taking priority over league matches.

Our Opponents:
Kilbirnie are currently 9th in the league, four points behind us, and have played four more than us. Kilbirnie started the season slowly and looked as though they could be fighting relegation this season. They have managed to pull themselves away from the relegation battle, climbing up the table. Since losing 5-1 to Petershill in December, our hosts are on a six game unbeaten run, having won four of those.

Previous Meeting:
We last met on 14 October 2023 when we beat Kilbirnie 4-0 at Keanie Park in the South Challenge Cup. This was a rescheduled match after the initial tie was abandoned in September due to a Kilbirnie player suffering a severe ankle injury. First half goals from Kieran Brophy and Jojo Gillespie, followed by a second half double from Ally Small saw Burgh claim a very comfortable victory over the North Ayrshire side, and it could've been even more had it not been for former Burgh keeper Glenn Cameron. Burgh will be expecting a tougher match this time against a much-improved side.
