Match Preview: Johnstone Burgh vs Thorniewood United

All the info ahead of Wednesday's WOSFL First Division clash against Thorniewood United.

The Match:
On Wednesday, we travel to Cliftonhill Stadium in Coatbridge (The Reigart Stadium) for our home match against Thorniewood United in, what is, our first of six midweek matches between now and the end of the season. The venue will be the third different "home stadium" for us this season, having also played two home games at Renfrew's New Western Park. Wednesday's match will be our first since the departure of manager Jamie McKim at the weekend, with Tommy Montgomery taking charge on Wednesday night, who will be assisted by Ross Wilson. The match kicks off at 19:45.

Weather:
At the time of writing, it looks like a wet day in Coatbridge, but the rain is forecast to clear before kick off and remain dry for the duration of the match. If the forecast gets it wrong and it does rain during the game, the stadium does have covered terraces.

Form:
Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Kilwinning was our fourth  in five matches. Our sole point in this run was our 1-1 draw with Rutherglen. Whilst promotion is still in our own hands, there's no more room for error as each game now becomes a must-win. We're currently 10th in the league with 30 points from 19 matches.

Our Opponents:
Our opposition are 11th in the league, level on points with The Burgh, and behind us by only one goal on goal difference. The Wood have, however, played two games more than us.  The visitors are in good form just now, unbeaten in six and have won their last four. That being said, they haven't played since 09 March, with their last two matches falling victim to the weather. Their last match saw them come from behind to beat Ashfield away 3-2.

Previous Meeting:
Johnstone Burgh 2-1 Thorniewood United. We last met on 18 March 2023, when goals from Kieran Brophy and Tam Cruden saw us come from behind to complete a league double over Thorniewood United, having also beaten them 2-1 at Robertson Park earlier in the season.

Getting There:
By Train: The closest station is Coatdyke, which is about half a mile walk to the stadium.
By Car: Driving times to Cliftonhill Stadium for a midweek match can vary greatly depending on traffic, but will typically take 30-50 minutes to drive from Johnstone. Post code is ML5 3RB. According to the Albion Rovers website "On street parking is available adjacent to the ground. There is no official car park." If parking on the street, please be mindful of local residents and take care not to obstruct any driveways or access to properties.
Supporters Bus: We are running a supporters bus to the game, departing Keanie Park at 18:30. Please note the bus is full so please only turn up to Keanie Park if you are booked on the bus.

Officials:
The referee on Wednesday night will be Scott McGregor, and he will be assisted by Ewan Dunn and Adam Holley. McGregor took charge of our 3-0 victory over Dundee North End in the Scottish Junior Cup. Adam Holley was assistant referee in our epic 3-3 draw with St Cadocs in the Sottish Junior Cup, which saw us win on penalties, while this will be Ewan Dunn's first involvement in a Burgh game this season.
