Match Preview: Johnstone Burgh vs Petershill

All the info ahead of Saturday's WOSFL First Division clash against Petershill.

The Match:
Saturday's match will be our first since the departure of manager Jamie McKim and several of his coaching team last weekend, with Tommy Montgomery taking charge on Saturday. Tommy will be assisted by Ross Wilson. The match kicks off at 14:00.

Weather:
At the time of writing, it looks like a mostly sunny afternoon but we could see a shower or two during the match. Members of the committee are working tirelessly on the pitch to give us the best chance of playing on Saturday following the heavy rain earlier this week that saw our Wednesday night game at Cliftonhill postponed. As always, unless otherwise stated, the game is ON. Keep on eye on our website, or follow us on Facebook, X and WhatsApp for the latest updates.

Form:
We're in a poor run of form at the moment and last Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Kilwinning was our fourth in five matches. Our sole point in this run was our 1-1 draw with Rutherglen. Whilst promotion is still in our own hands, there's no more room for error as each game now becomes a must-win. We're currently 10th in the league with 30 points from 19 matches.

Our Opponents:
Our opposition are the current league leaders with 45 points from 26 matches and have led the league for much of the season. However, despite being top, promotion is out of their hands due to the number of teams who have games in hand. The visitors will be desperate to win this, as Burgh are one of eight teams that can jump Petershill should they win their games in hand. Our opponents this weekend haven't played for three weeks, but their last six games have seen four wins and two defeats. Last time out, on 09 March, they lost 2-0 to Shotts Bon Accord at Hannah Park.

Previous Meeting:
Petershill 3-2 Johnstone Burgh. We last met on 16 August 2023 at Petershill Park. The home side took the lead before a lovely build-up resulted in Brophy slotting in to equalise. Petershill took the lead again to lead 2-1 at half time. Burgh responded in the second half with debutant Ally Small heading home, before a penalty won it 3-2 for Petershill.
