Match Preview: Johnstone Burgh vs Cambuslang Rangers

All the info ahead of Saturday's WOSFL First Division fixture against Cambuslang Rangers.

The Match:
Our first home match of 2024 takes place at Keanie Park with kick off at 13:30.

Weather:
There is, of course, some doubt regarding this weekend's match, but the weather hasn't hit Johnstone this week quite as bad as had been forecast and therefore, at the time of writing we are hopeful of having the game on. The club are monitoring the pitch and will be working hard to give the game every chance we can. We will keep fans updated via our website, and our social media channels. We remain hopeful and unless stated otherwise, the game is ON.

Form:
Burgh go into the game in fine form, having won our last four and winning 10 of our last 11 in all competitions, and five of our last 6 in the league. We sit fourth in the league, three points behind leaders Petershill, and two points behind second place Kilwinning Rangers, and we have four games in hand on both. Drumchapel are in third, above us only on goal difference, and we have one game in hand on them.

Our Opponents:
Cambuslang Rangers currently sit 12th in the league, and apart from Whitletts Victoria, have the most goals conceded (43) and the worst goal difference (-14). Despite this, only one of their last 12 matches in all competitions has been decided by more than one goal, a 5-0 defeat away to Renfrew in November. Their last seven games have all been league fixtures, seeing three wins, two draws and two defeats.

Previous Meeting:
Cambuslang Rangers 2-5 Johnstone Burgh. Four goals in the last 15 minutes saw us turn around a 2-1 deficit and win 5-2. Ally Small had put us ahead in the first half but Cambuslang were level almost immediately. We then had two goals ruled out before the hosts took the lead on the stroke of half time. Then, in the last 15 minutes, Camby self-destructed giving The Burgh a penalty, which Jojo Gillespie took and scored, then two howlers from the keeper allowed Brophy and McKinlay to score from crosses on the right before Simeon added a 5th in added time.
