Match Preview: Arthurlie vs Johnstone Burgh

All the info ahead of Sunday's Scottish Junior Cup Semi Final First Leg clash against Arthurlie.

The Match:
On Sunday, we make the short journey to Barrhead to take on Arthurlie in a Renfrewshire Deby. The match kicks off at 14:30, but with a large crowd expected, we'd urge fans to allow plenty of time for entry to the stadium. With our opponents, and both teams in the other semi final being in the WOSFL Premier Division, we're now the lowest ranked side left in the competition. Entry to the Semi Final for home and away supporters will be via the turnstiles at the North (Railway) End of the ground

Weather:
The weather isn't great this weekend, with mostly rain forecast. At the time of writing, we have not received any information from Arthurlie that the game could be in doubt.

Form:
After taking one point from five matches, The Burgh are now unbeaten in three, having won two and drawn one. Ally Small's 95th minute equaliser on Wednesday night against Thorniewood United ensured that our unbeaten run under Tommy Montgomery continued. You can read Monty's thoughts ahead of the semi final here. In the league, we sit 8th and, with games in hand, promotion remains in our own hands.

Our Opponents:
Arthurlie currently occupy the second relegation spot in the PDM Huws Gray WOSFL Premier Division with 19 points from 25 games. Before this weekend's round of league matches, they're seven points from safety and have played more games than other teams in the relegation battle, so they're facing a tough task to remain in the WOSFL's top division. The next two weekends will serve as a welcome distraction from their league troubles. Their only victory in their last 10 matches came on 24 February, when they beat title candidates St Cadocs 3-0. In that run of 10 matches since their quarter final win Bellshill Athletic, they've lost four and drawn five. However, form goes out the window in cup matches, and we'll be expecting a tough test.

How We Got To The Quarter Finals:
Our five previous matches in this competition have all been at home against sixth tier teams, from two different regions. Rounds 1 & 2 saw 3-0 home victories over Dundee East Craigie and Dundee North End. Then in Round 3, we beat West Of Scotland Premier Division Side Irvine Meadow 3-1 at Keanie Park. Round 4 was eventually played on the fourth attempt, after being postponed three times due to the weather. Due to the number of postponements and the need to get this match played, we moved the game to New Western Park in Renfrew where we beat Dundee Downfield 4-3 on penalties, after a 2-2 draw.  The quarter final saw an epic battle against St Cadocs, as we came from 2-0 to lead 3-2, only to concede a late equaliser. The game finished 3-3, and went to a penalty shootout, which we won 4-1.

How They Got To The Quarter Finals:
R1: Kilsyth Rangers 0-4 Arthurlie
R2: Forfar United 1-6 Arthurlie
R3: Rutherglen Glencairn 3-3 Arthurlie (3-4 pens)
R4: Benburb 2-3 Arthurlie
QF: Bellshill Athletic 1-2 Arthurlie

Previous Meeting:
Johnstone Burgh 1-1 Arthurlie. We last met towards the end of the 2021/22 season. Danny McBeth had given The Burgh the lead before a late equaliser prevented us becoming the only team to beat the eventual league winners.
