Kilbirnie Ladeside 2-0 Johnstone Burgh

Burgh Defeated In Kilbirnie

A goal in each half gave Kilbirnie Ladeside a 2-0 victory over The Burgh at Valefield Park this afternoon.

Before kick off, both sides marked the passing of former Kilbirnie keeper Tony Bryden with a minute's applause.

Burgh made one change from last weekend's cup win over St Cadocs, as Cammy Crooks dropped to the bench, making way for Blair Rossiter.

It took 20 minutes for the first real chance of the game. A long ball over the top saw Dale Simeon run onto it and, on the half volley, struck low but former Burgh keeper Jamie McGowan got down to make the save and it was cleared out for a Burgh corner.

Five minutes later, the home side had their first real chance - a free kick about 25 yards out. Mickey Wilson struck it left footed, and Burgh keeper Harry Broun seemed to slip as he attempted to get across his goal to make the save and the ball went in off the underside of the bar.

In the 40th minute, Blair Rossiter shot over the bar after he cut inside onto his right foot.

Two minutes later, Ross McKenzie struck a powerful effort from the edge of the box, but McGowan made the save and Lewis Crawford cleared the danger for Ladeside.

Half Time: 1-0

On 83 minutes, the hosts secured victory as Mickey Wilson crossed it for Alex Bell, who flicked it over the Burgh keeper and into the net.

As Burgh tried to find a way back into the game, a Gary McCann free kick was met by the head of Jason Naismith, but his header went just wide.

Full Time: 2-0

Starting XI: Broun, McCann, Wright, Menzies, Naismith (C), McDonald, Brophy, McKenzie, S McCann, Simeon, Rossiter

Man Of The Match: Malky McDonald
