Johnstone Burgh 0-2 Beith

Johnstone Burgh 0-2 Beith

Malky McDonald Gets Caught By Beith's Ricky Little

Burgh were beaten 2-0 by current champions Beith at Keanie Park this afternoon.

The visitors got off to a perfect when they raced into the lead in the 4th minute. Evan Dunne's throw in found Ben Lewis unmarked in the box, and he fired it past Luke Scullion in the Burgh goal.

Burgh looked to hit back quickly and came close when Blair Rossiter's free kick was whipped into the box. Danny O'Neill headed the ball back across the box to Jordan Moore whose header looked like it was heading in, until Owen Stott brilliantly clawed it away to keep Beith in the lead. As Beith struggled to clear it, the ball was crossed back into the box to Moore, who stumbled as he tried to bring the ball under control, and the ball ran out of play for a goal kick.

A minute later, Beith had a chance to double their lead when they were awarded a free kick. Despite the angle, and perhaps the distance, being against him Carlo Monti went for goal and forced a good save from Scullion.

Around the half hour mark, Burgh came close to an equaliser when Jonny Lyon shot from 20 yards out but Stott produced another fantastic save as he tipped it over the bar for a corner.

In the 36th minute, Beith added a second through Andy Monk. A quick counter attack saw Monti play an excellent throughball, which undid the Burgh defence, and Monk kept his composure to beat Scullion and make it 2-0.

Half Time: 0-2

Burgh came out for the second half playing a higher tempo eager to find a way back into the game. It didn't take long for us to find the net, as Cammy Eadie headed in after Danny O'Neill headed Mullen's corner back across goal. However, the Burgh celebrations were cut short as the referee deemed Eadie to have fouled the keeper as he went for the ball.

Beith seemed content with their 2-0 lead. They were organised and disciplined, and although more of the second half was played inside the Beith half, we failed to create anything to test their keeper after the disallowed goal. The visitors did have a couple of efforts themselves, but like us, they failed to test the keeper.

Full Time: 0-2

Starting XI: Scullion, Mullen, Gilday, Eadie, O'Neill, Esplin (C), Lyon, McDonald, Moore, Rossiter, Mason
