Johnstone Burgh progressed to the fourth round of the West of Scotland Cup with a 1-2 win at Hurlford United.
A superb lobbed ball through the middle from Graham Dorrans found Aaron Mason, who chipped the advancing keeper. Ford defender Carter Frew did brilliantly to get back and, although he was unable to clear it away from danger, he did prevent it crossing the line as he tumbled into the net but Mason, following up his chip, smashed it into the net from a yard out.
Both sides grabbed a goal shortly before the midway point of the second half. Burgh doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Jonny Lyon rounded off a lovely team goal, as he coolly slotted home Max Kerr's cross. Burgh's two-goal advantage lasted only three minutes before Carter Frew pulled one back for the hosts. Luke Scullion had made a terrific save to keep the score 0-2 but was powerless to stop Frew tapping in the rebound.
Just as he did when we played here in the league, Scullion made an excellent match-winning save in the dying seconds. The ball was flicked on to Hurlford captain Paul McKenzie who was one on one with Scullion, but Scullion saved with his foot to send Burgh into Round 4.
Details of the draw will be communicated on our Facebook, X and WhatsApp channels.
