Johnstone Burgh played out a goalless draw at Beechwood Park against Auchinleck Talbot this afternoon.
There were two debutants in the starting XI for the visitors with Ross Davidson, who signed this week, going straight into the team to replace the suspended Del Esplin. Cup-tied Ross Smith was finally able to make his debut for The Burgh, playing their first league fixture since 16th November.
Both sides had chances in the first half but the defences of both sides remained stubborn and refused to be breached.
Minutes into the second half and Talbot had the ball in the net, but it was ruled out for offside.
The match was stopped for several minutes after Stuart McCann suffered a nasty-looking head injury and he was replaced by Trialist.
As the game went on, it looked destined to finish 0-0 with both sides cancelling each other out and, therefore, neither side was able to play their best football.
Talbot keeper Corey Armour was worked in the second half but saved everything he faced with efforts from Smith, Mason and Kerr. Our best chance came with around 15 minutes to play when Kerr's strike was saved by Armour, but the Talbot keeper spilled it. With Rossiter, featuring for the first time since his injury, closing in to knock it into the net, Talbot centreback Neil Slooves got there just ahead of the Burgh man to clear it away.
At the other end, Scullion made some good saves towards the end.
With time running out, Talbot had the ball in the net again. But Ewan Thomson had handled the ball as he controlled it, and the referee disallowed the goal.
Burgh looked as though we might snatch the win when a long ball over the top saw Trialist knock it past the defender and found himself one on one but Armour, anticipating Trialist's touch, had raced out of his goal and was able to clear it.
